Inspection Day at the Forbidden Linen Cupboard

Original cat comedy · Short read · Fiction

For months, the linen cupboard had remained closed. Crumb considered this suspicious. An honest cupboard, he felt, would not require a door.

When the human opened it to fetch a towel, he conducted an immediate inspection from the hallway. Olive served as outside counsel, meaning she sat outside and looked expensive.

The shelves contained folded sheets, towels, and an alarming absence of allocated cat seating. Crumb announced his findings by stretching upward and making one dissatisfied noise.

The human closed the door. This prevented a thorough review but confirmed, in Crumb’s opinion, that the review was urgently needed.

Pickle proposed an alternative: the clean blanket already lying on the sofa. Crumb dismissed it as a distraction, then inspected it for two hours with his eyes shut.

The final report concluded that the linen cupboard was probably comfortable, definitely secretive, and operating beyond association oversight.

A follow-up visit was scheduled for the next time the human attempted to put anything away.
