Annual General Meeting: Nobody Has Read the Agenda

Original cat comedy · Short read · Fiction

Crumb opened the annual general meeting by asking whether everyone had read the agenda. Olive had slept on it. Pickle had watched the printer produce it and felt that was sufficient involvement.

The human had prepared a short household budget. The cats approved expenditure on heating, cushions, and a category labeled “other,” which they assumed referred to them.

A motion to reduce unexplained early-morning noise failed after Crumb questioned the phrase “early morning.” A motion to keep the hallway clear passed while Pickle occupied the hallway.

The association then reviewed its achievements: one relocated fern, a contested pillow, and a guest room with increasingly limited guest availability.

Crumb described the year as productive. The human described it as Wednesday.

For the coming year, Olive proposed fewer surprises. Pickle proposed more packaging. Crumb proposed reelection by acclamation and accepted the sound of the refrigerator opening as unanimous support.

The meeting adjourned abruptly. Refreshments, it appeared, had developed elsewhere.
