Breaking: Pigeon Returns to Location Where Pigeon Was

Original cat comedy · Short read · Fiction

WINDOWSILL—A pigeon returned to the fence this morning, reigniting a situation that had appeared to end when it left yesterday.

Editor Biscuit watched from behind the closed window. “We are monitoring developments,” his posture suggested, although he had been monitoring this particular development for most of his career.

The pigeon looked left, then right. Analysts at the Gazette described the move as provocative in both directions.

A second pigeon arrived at eleven. Biscuit stood up, demonstrating the seriousness of the escalation. No statement was available from either bird.

The human closed one curtain to reduce the glare on her computer. Newsroom staff condemned the sudden loss of access to a major public-interest story.

Coverage resumed from the other half of the window. The second pigeon had departed. The first remained, declining to acknowledge the consequences of its presence.

This is a developing story. It has been developing since Tuesday, and the Gazette expects further developments of broadly the same kind.
