Application Denied: Your Sunbeam Permit Has Expired
Share
Original cat comedy · Short read · Fiction
Chairman Crumb found the human sitting in the afternoon sunbeam without a permit. He approached with the solemn expression of a building inspector discovering a staircase made of pudding.
She said, “I live here.”
Crumb sat on her application, which was actually a grocery receipt. This placed it under formal review.
The new rules required three references, proof of previous napping, and a photograph of the applicant looking disappointed near a window. The human supplied two references and a picture from her passport. Crumb considered the disappointment convincing but the ears inadequate.
At four fifteen, the sunbeam moved. Crumb followed it across the rug, carrying the entire jurisdiction with him. The human asked whether her application transferred to the new location.
Olive, the treasurer, explained that relocation incurred an additional fee.
By four thirty, the sunbeam had disappeared. All applications were frozen pending next afternoon’s budget.
The human switched on a lamp. Crumb reported an unlicensed competitor.
