A Guided Tour of the Space Under the Sofa

Original cat comedy · Short read · Fiction
“On your left,” Fig began, “you will notice something that may once have belonged to a pen.”
The human crouched beside the sofa with a flashlight. Mabel considered this excellent audience engagement.
The tour continued past a soft toy, a mysterious receipt, and a coin that Fig attributed to the Late Shopping Period.
The human retrieved the toy. Fig asked guests to refrain from removing objects during the presentation.
Next came the receipt. The human said, “I’ve been looking for that.” Mabel explained, by blinking slowly, that the museum frequently reunited people with parts of their cultural heritage.
The flashlight revealed a dust bunny. Fig paused respectfully. Some works speak for themselves.
The human brought a cleaning attachment. The tour ended earlier than advertised.
Mabel relocated the institution to behind the armchair, a smaller venue with stronger defenses against public access.
Fig updated the brochure: intimate galleries, changing displays, and absolutely no flash photography if the flash belonged to the person who cleaned.
