Unexpected Update: The Human Has a Weekend Schedule

Original cat comedy · Short read · Fiction

Release notes for Human Version Saturday arrived without consultation.

Changes included later rising, slower movement toward the kitchen, and a baffling belief that opening one eye constituted meaningful service.

The customer contacted Noodle immediately. “Yesterday’s version worked at six,” she reported.

Noodle explained that calendar-dependent behavior was built into the system. The customer asked where the calendar could be removed.

A rollback was unavailable. However, support suggested monitoring the human from the bedside until the update completed.

The customer tried a stare. Then a slightly closer stare. Then the kind of stillness that somehow feels louder than noise.

At seven, the human sat up and said, “It’s Saturday.” The customer appreciated the explanation but found it unrelated to breakfast.

Noodle logged this as a communication mismatch. Both parties were using the same room with incompatible operating hours.

By midmorning, normal service resumed. The customer took a nap, having spent the entire extra hour ensuring that nobody else enjoyed theirs.
