The Window Seat Charges Extra for the View

Original cat comedy · Short read · Fiction

The window seat was occupied when Dot arrived. Claude had positioned himself across its best angle, creating what the resort industry might call a premium obstruction.

Dot sat below and waited for an upgrade. Claude looked out at the garden with the serenity of someone who had arrived first and intended to make that fact a personality.

The human placed another cushion nearby. Dot considered it, but the view contained too much Claude.

Negotiations continued silently. Dot moved closer. Claude rearranged one paw. Neither side offered terms.

At last a sound came from the kitchen. Claude departed to investigate, leaving the view unguarded.

Dot occupied the seat immediately. The garden proved pleasant, although she spent most of her stay watching for Claude’s return.

Her travel column later praised the location but warned that premium accommodation could involve intense competition.

Claude reviewed the kitchen instead. Nothing had happened there, but he described the journey as worthwhile research rather than admitting that he had lost the window.
