Packing for a Trip Across the Rug
Share
Original cat comedy · Short read · Fiction
Dot prepared carefully for her journey across the rug. She took herself, all four paws, and a firm belief that something might be different on the far side.
Claude asked whether she needed a travel companion. She declined; solo exploration was central to her brand, and he tended to get to the comfortable spot first.
The expedition began well. After three steps, Dot stopped to stretch. After five, she checked behind her. At seven, she decided the destination looked less inviting than the departure point.
She returned.
The human watched this entire process and said, “Big day?” Dot appreciated the recognition.
In her account of the journey, she emphasized the importance of flexibility. Travelers should never feel trapped by an itinerary, especially an itinerary invented while sitting still.
Claude crossed the rug shortly afterward and found a warm cushion. Dot joined him, describing the change as a spontaneous second departure.
She had packed perfectly. The only thing she had left behind was her commitment to traveling alone.
