The Seminar on Opening the Correct Cupboard
Share
Original cat comedy · Short read · Fiction
Professor Pudding scheduled a seminar beside the kitchen cupboards. The human opened one to retrieve a plate.
Incorrect.
She opened another for a glass.
Also incorrect.
Pudding repositioned himself near the cupboard containing his familiar meal supplies. The student finally recognized the visual aid but pointed out that dinner was not due yet.
The professor explained, through a patient stare, that the seminar concerned identification rather than immediate service.
The human closed every cupboard. This removed all teaching materials at once.
Pudding followed her into the next room to discuss the interruption. She called him persistent. He called it office hours.
At dinner time, the correct cupboard opened and the correct items emerged. Pudding accepted the meal with the satisfaction of an educator seeing knowledge applied.
The human maintained that she had understood the cupboards all along. This was plausible but difficult to reconcile with the morning’s repeated selection of uninteresting ones.
For homework, she was asked to reflect on why a glass could possibly be more urgent than his lecture.
