The Mysterious Clicking Noise Was Coming from Us
Share
Original cat comedy · Short read · Fiction
A faint clicking sound interrupted Juniper’s afternoon investigation of a cushion. She froze. Waffles froze too, mostly because she had.
The sound stopped.
Juniper moved toward the hallway. Click. Waffles followed. Click again.
They examined the door, the table, and a completely innocent shoe. None admitted responsibility.
The human watched the procession and noticed a small tag tapping against Waffles’s familiar collar hardware as he moved. She adjusted the ordinary fit during their routine check, and the sound changed.
Juniper had observed the intervention but preferred not to rush to a conclusion. A good detective needed more than an obvious explanation delivered directly in front of her.
Waffles walked away. The room became quiet.
He returned. The tiny click returned with him.
Juniper classified him as a mobile acoustic event.
The report avoided assigning blame. Partners should not be embarrassed for carrying the answer around their neck, particularly when the lead investigator spent twenty minutes questioning a shoe with considerably less evidence.
