The Case of the Warm Seat and the Absent Human

Original cat comedy · Short read · Fiction

Juniper arrived at the chair to find it warm and empty. Something had happened here, and recently.

Waffles suggested sitting down. Juniper insisted on examining the scene first.

A book lay open on the armrest. A mug stood on the nearby table. The blanket carried a shallow indentation approximately the size of a human who had finally become comfortable.

Juniper reconstructed the events. Someone had occupied the chair, established warmth, and left without transferring custody.

The motive remained unclear.

From the kitchen came the sound of a spoon. Waffles considered this relevant. Juniper considered it a distraction until the human returned carrying more tea.

“Were you waiting for me?” she asked.

Juniper stepped onto the seat before the witness could compromise the evidence. Waffles occupied the blanket’s other edge.

The human sat elsewhere.

Case closed: the missing person had been located, the valuable warmth secured, and the original arrangement successfully prevented from resuming. Juniper filed the report from the center of the evidence, where it remained unusually comfortable.
