The All-Inclusive Stay Excludes the Best Chair

Original cat comedy · Short read · Fiction
Dot’s home offered an impressive all-inclusive package: meals, sheltered accommodation, familiar people, and several approved places to sleep.
Naturally, she wanted the one chair holding the human’s folded work clothes.
The manager explained that the chair was temporarily unavailable. Dot interpreted this as evidence that it belonged to a superior class of accommodation.
Claude recommended the sofa. Dot had already stayed there and felt repeat visits lacked the thrill of a difficult booking.
She waited beside the chair until the human moved the clothes to a hanger. At last, the destination was hers.
The seat was ordinary. Without the clothes, it had lost much of its appeal. Dot remained for nine minutes out of professional pride, then returned to the sofa.
Her review praised the manager’s flexibility while noting that the premium upgrade failed to meet expectations.
The human put a bag on the chair later that afternoon. Dot stood up at once.
Some destinations, she reflected, were worth revisiting whenever management gave them a reason to be unavailable.
