A Postcard from Home, Where Dot Has Been All Along

Original cat comedy · Short read · Fiction

Dear Reader,

After an exhausting season of travel, I have returned to the living room. You may remember it from my reports on the sofa, the armchair, the window, and the lower half of the rug.

Home feels different after seeing so much of it.

Claude greeted me without standing up. The human said, “There you are,” suggesting that my absence had been felt for the entire time I spent behind the chair.

I am unpacking slowly. Since I brought no luggage, this mainly involves settling into the familiar cushion and deciding whether the journey has changed me.

It has. I now know that the landing is overrated, the guest room improves with the right guest, and a good blanket can rescue a disappointing spa closure.

Tomorrow I may explore the dining room. The route is short, but the chairs offer compelling possibilities.

For now, I am content to remain exactly here. Experienced travelers know when to stop moving, particularly when the afternoon sun has just arrived.

Dot
