Office Hours Have Moved to the Warmest Chair

Original cat comedy · Short read · Fiction

A student looking for Professor Pudding would previously have found him on the study cushion. Today, office hours had moved to the living room chair.

No notice had been posted. Pudding expected advanced students to identify the warmest available location without administrative assistance.

The human found him while looking for her cardigan. He was holding it in place with his entire body.

She asked a question about returning it. Pudding considered the matter carefully with closed eyes.

The consultation lasted twenty minutes. The student received no answer but reported feeling less inclined to leave the house, which the professor regarded as a positive educational outcome.

A second question concerned whether he could move just a little. Pudding stretched across more of the cardigan, demonstrating the importance of precise language.

The student withdrew the question.

By late afternoon, office hours had moved again, this time to a sunny patch on the floor. The cardigan was released without explanation.

The human called the arrangement ridiculous. Pudding called it a flexible learning environment.
