Fig Donates a Hair to the Permanent Collection
Share
Original cat comedy · Short read · Fiction
Fig’s first donation arrived on the human’s black sweater. It was a single pale hair, presented without an appointment.
Mabel accepted it as a miniature. Within minutes, Fig had donated another twenty-three works in the same medium.
Storage quickly became an issue. The museum expanded into a chair, a cushion, and the trousers the human had intended to wear outside.
The human brought out a lint roller. Mabel welcomed what appeared to be a visiting collector with an unusually aggressive acquisition strategy.
Fig watched his entire retrospective disappear onto one sticky sheet. He looked neither surprised nor discouraged. A prolific artist understands that more work is already in development.
The sheet went into the bin, where Mabel considered organizing a satellite exhibition before deciding the sofa was more comfortable.
By dinner, the sweater had received three new donations.
The museum announced that its permanent collection remained permanent in the broadest possible sense: specific examples might leave, but the general situation would continue.
