Advanced Lap Management Has a Practical Exam

Original cat comedy · Short read · Fiction

The lap management exam began without warning when Pudding stepped onto the human’s knees.

She was assessed on stillness, blanket placement, and her ability to reach a book without changing the underlying furniture.

The first ten minutes went well. Then her foot fell asleep. Pudding noted the complaint but did not adjust the examination conditions.

She shifted slightly. He looked up. The movement stopped.

This demonstrated rapid learning.

A phone rang across the room. The student faced a difficult choice between outside communication and the immediate comfort of an examiner with four paws.

She let it ring. Pudding awarded distinction.

After thirty minutes, he stood, stretched, and moved to a cushion. The human rose quickly, discovering that her own legs had additional feedback about the exam.

She asked whether she had passed. Pudding began washing his shoulder, having moved on to another department.

The certificate arrived later as a small patch of fur on her trousers. It was not suitable for framing, but she would be finding copies for days.
